How Do I Get Higher Credit Limits?

Am I more likely to get higher limits by asking for periodic limit increases with an existing company, or by opening another new credit card after I've had other credit cards in good standing for a couple of years?Right now the most I have is one that went from I believe 300.00 to now 1250.00TIA

Easiest thing I did was be added as an AU to a BoA card with 2 years of perfect history and a $10K CL. Had a crap $300 CL Orchard card before, after I applied at WaMu and got a $7500 CL. YMMV

AU= Authorized User?I don't know that that's going to happen for me but I'll consider that for helping my fiance with her credit, if anyone has additional information about that I'd certainly be interested in hearing about it.TIA

just make sure you pay them on time. i got my providian/wamu card and my amex blue card in late 05/early 06 and they initially had a limit of $1k & $3k. at the end of the year(06) the limits were increased to $8k(providian/wamu) and $11k(amex). i never charge that much on my cards so im not sure what prompted for the increases.

so bofa reports AU to CRAs? does bofa ask for ss#? what other creditors report AUs? i'm pretty sure chase doesn't.

I am an AU on a FIA/BofA card that reports. It asked for SS# although it didn't seem like it was a required field. The card has a $20k limit and has been open 20 years but I'm not really sure what affect it has had on my FICO's. It caused a 70point increase in my EX FAKO but didn't affect the other two at all.



my first post BK 5 figure limit was a CREDIT UNION. my highest current limit is a CREDIT UNION.
